Colgate students are sharing their experiences conducting research with faculty members on campus and in the field. This post is by Eli Goberdon ’16, a computer science major from Scranton, Pa. I have a fascination with storytelling, especially storytelling through the use of computers. One way stories are conveyed through computers is 3D graphics software.

Twenty-five years ago, professor Frederick Busch designed Living Writers as a way to bring students together with famous writers. Today, professors Jane Pinchin and Jennifer Brice continue to teach Living Writers, which they revamped in 2009 for a new generation of undergraduates, and a new generation of online book lovers. Some students adjust to college easily and naturally, while others struggle and even falter. A new online non-credit “course,” comprised of 13 short videos made by Colgate faculty, is designed to minimize the mystery about what it takes to succeed. The series also includes many student-produced video responses featuring current students and alumni.

Paul Sirma ‘15, a mathematical economics major from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, interned with the Ifakara Health Institute to create a greater understanding of HIV/AIDS in his home country.

This summer, I interned with the �������� Communications Office. The Communications team is responsible for all print and digital publications that represent Colgate to both our campus and global community. What piqued my interest in the internship was the opportunity to learn how Colgate told its story through its written and visual content.
