When Carly Keller ’13, Sarah Vondracek ’13, and Sarah Cochran ’14 enrolled in Community-Based Study on Environmental Issues (ENST 390) with Professor Christopher Henke during the fall of 2012, they devised a strategy to move Colgate toward a zero-waste commencement.

Few in attendance were surprised when Evan Chartier ’14, a sociology and anthropology and women’s studies double major from Oak Park Ill., was called to receive the 1819 Award, Colgate’s most selective and prestigious recognition.

The hosts of Take Two radio interviewed geography professor Ellen Percy Kraly for an Earth Day episode called “Impact of the population on the planet is more than a numbers game.” The five-minute segment can be heard here.

At ALANA’s Spring Soiree, Garfield O. Smith ’85 recognized the contributions of previous Colgate students who have paved the way for current students — including those receiving this year’s multicultural awards. 

“[A] cosmic Colgate connection is how I found myself working [in the film industry after college],” remarked Carolina van der Mensbrugghe ’10 during a Film and Media Studies Brown Bag luncheon last Friday.

“So far, the reaction of [the international community] has been too slow and too timid and too little,” Arnoldas Pranckevicius ’02 asserted in his lecture “Ukrainian Crisis: A Key Challenge to the European Security Order.”

                At least two Colgate alumni are running for U.S. Congress: State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney ’83 is running in New York’s 22nd District, and Derek Hyra ’96 is running in Virginia’s 8th District. 

          Two alumni, Katie Garman Kammerdiener ’10 and Pat Campolieta ’02, returned to Cotterell Court this past season. But, instead of dribbling up and down the court, the former basketball players sat in as the color commentators.
