NCAA: Colgate No. 1 in graduating student-athletes

Back to All Stories

Colgate is No. 1 in the nation, along with Notre Dame, in graduation rates for its Division I student-athletes, according to a report issued by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data show that 99 percent of athletes at Colgate and Notre Dame graduated.

鈥淲e鈥檙e proud of our continued success in supporting our student-athletes,鈥 said Interim President Lyle Roelofs. 鈥淗aving an athletics program that is successful both on the field of play and in the classroom requires hard work, dedication, and support on the part of all 鈥 our athletes, coaches, faculty, and administration. That鈥檚 what we aspire to at Colgate.鈥

The GSR differs from federal graduation statistics because it accounts for students who transfer. The NCAA鈥檚 figures, unlike the federal ones, do not penalize an institution for athletes who leave to attend other colleges, as long as they depart in good academic standing.

Colgate鈥檚 federal graduation rate for athletes is 88, just behind Notre Dame, which leads the nation at 90 percent.
