Cellist Hilary Glen has been praised as a “standout performer” who has successfully “taken on the demanding and most expressive responsibilities assigned to the instrument.”

With a mission to promote inclusive and intentional programming, her entrepreneurial spirit has led her to curate interactive chamber music events that feature the works of historically excluded composers. She has also presented her research in this area at multiple National Conferences for the College Music Society, the Suzuki Association of the Americas, the American String Teachers Association, and at the inaugural 2023 Context Conference at the Eastman School of Music. Her duo, Gibbs St. Duo, was formed with the mission to expand the canon of Cello/Piano repertoire and their CD, Memories Unsettled, features music by living, American composers.

A versatile performer, she plays rock shows, concertos, and everything in between. She has collaborated with such notable musicians, ensembles, and composers as Yo Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Robin Thicke, the New World Symphony, Gil Shaham, The Eagles, the Atlanta Symphony, Michael Tilson Thomas, The Temptations, Hilary Hahn, Bernard Haitink, Gary Hoffman, Yefim Bronfman, Mattias Pintscher, and The Who. Glen also coordinates and performs with several small ensembles that have played at a wide variety of venues including the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, as well as local schools, hospitals, and senior living centers. 

A devoted teacher and life-long learner herself, she works with students of all ages, cultivating a curiosity and love of music making. She regularly presents masterclasses and lectures, and has been in-residence at several universities around the country, including Penn State University, Baylor University, and The Ohio State University. Her students have been awarded top recognitions, but more importantly, they love music and love playing the cello.

Glen earned her B.M. at IU, studying with János Starker. She earned her M.M. and D.M.A. degrees, studying under Alan Harris, at the Eastman School of Music. Other influential teachers include Helga Winold, David Ying, Kathleen Kemp, and Jean Barr. When not playing the cello, Dr. Glen can be found singing, exploring the outdoors, and/or dancing.
